Why this is a big deal…

The Development Manager is responsible for the development and administration of multi-year government, philanthropic and corporate awards that have a significant on the-ground impact for families and individuals that need it most, all while addressing our planet’s pressing climate crisis. The position works collaboratively with the regional leadership team and headquarter philanthropy team to pursue funding opportunities in and/or for the benefit of the economic and environmental justice communities that GRID GLA serves. Grant writing and reporting are two major components of the Development Manager’s overall responsibilities. The Development Officer reports to the Director of Strategic Development. Flexible remote work schedule possible, depending on needs and preferences.

 

The Opportunity…

  • Prospect and develop grant proposals to foundations, including researching opportunities, managing deadlines, writing proposals, and submitting proposals in a timely manner
  • Manage administrative and compliance responsibilities associated with government, foundation, and corporate awards, including timely submission of narrative reports, invoices, and any other information required pursuant to the terms of awards
  • Willingness to obtain funding from individual, corporate and foundation supporters throughout the region
  • Acknowledge donors and track donations using our Salesforce.com CRM database
  • Represent the organization to potential donors, funders, sponsors, and the general community
  • Collaborate with GRID GLA Marketing and Communications Manager to implement local campaigns and cultivation events to raise individual donations from local individual donors
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with funders and donors
  • Expand donors through research, networking opportunities, relationship building and outreach
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills (ability to represent GRID Alternatives with prospective funders and donors)
  • Strong desire to work with/in diverse communities
  • Lead, follow, and work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated commitment to GRID Alternatives’ mission and the communities we serve
  • Flexible and willing to embrace change, go the extra mile, and bring ideas and energy to a rapidly growing organization
  • Proficient with MS Teams and G-Suite (Google Docs, Calendar, etc.), and Salesforce, or able to quickly learn applications

What you need to bring to this role…​

  • 3+ years relevant experience
  • Experience living and/or working in economically disadvantaged communities and with diverse populations
  • Experience writing, managing reporting requirements associated with multi-year grants, preferably in excess of three million dollars

*Hired CA candidates must be able to pass a screening for drugs that are illegal in the state of California, including: amphetamine, cocaine metabolite, opiates, and PCP.

 

It would be great if you also had…

  • A background in renewable energy, experience or knowledge of the basics of solar energy
  • A passion for environmental justice, renewable energy, sustainability, affordable housing, the environment; or just generally grounded in making the world a better place

 

Where you will sit & the places you may go…

This position will work out of our GLA office in Los Angeles, CA. This position may require up to 25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects. Availability to work nights and weekends may be required.

 

GRID Alternatives provides vehicles for work travel, and due to COVID-19 current guidelines, we may also require limited personal vehicle use. In the latter instance, GRID will provide travel reimbursement for work-related personal vehicle use in accordance with our payroll schedule. Additionally, all applicants will need a valid driver’s license and good driving record to be considered.

This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary commensurate with experience within the pay band of $60,000 – $75,000 plus the benefits listed below.
