GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY

The Wilmington Housing Outreach Coordinator will play a crucial role in ensuring low-income tenants in District 15 have home stability, through dissemination of information about eviction prevention resources, utility rebates, upgrades, and other incentives that promote home sustainability. The Wilmington Outreach Coordinator will create and implement outreach efforts to connect tenants to various resources such as free legal services for tenants experiencing evictions and relevant referral services. This role will support CBE’s local organizing team and communications team to successfully implement housing outreach efforts. The Wilmington Housing Outreach Coordinator will also conduct tenant workshops and coordinate with our local partners in Stay Housed LA.

 

The Wilmington Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for helping to lead the development and implementation of CBE’s housing strategies. This position will mainly focus on conducting educational outreach and recruitment, developing relationships with tenants, representing the organization in coalition spaces, advancing leadership, and membership development. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Help develop, implement, and participate in Stay Housed LA Coalition outreach efforts and coalition activities that integrate CBE’s tools of transformative organizing, scientific and policy research, and legal strategies.
  • Conduct outreach to low-income District 15 tenants.
  • Provide meaningful tenant resources to a variety of policies and programs, including rent stabilization protections and utility benefits.
  • Coordinate monthly tenant workshops.
  • Help develop the leadership skills of CBE members through bridging efforts between CBE members, housing stability and environmental justice strategies.
  • Develop and implement dynamic communications materials that showcase tenant stories and elevate our environmental justice framework.
  • Provide reporting to the SoCal Program Director and Stay Housed LA.
  • Participate in weekly Wilmington Team meetings & monthly State-Wide Staff Meetings.

In addition to the above, racial equity and language justice are key areas supported by the Housing Outreach Coordinator. CBE has made a commitment to addressing anti-blackness and white supremacy culture within our organization, and the Housing Outreach Coordinator will participate in CBE’s internal work to meet equity goals and will be a bridge to our members’ participation.

EXPERIENCE & JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Solid understanding of Environmental Justice and commitment to long-term social change through community organizing.
  • Previous grassroots community organizing, or outreach experience preferred.
  • Experience in utility and/or housing efforts preferred.
  • Public speaking/presentation experience.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Access to a reliable form of transportation.

 

This position is based in our Wilmington office and is temporarily remote, however, some travel is required for in person outreach in the harbor area.

 

Benefits and Compensation: This is a full-time, overtime-exempt position, with an annual salary of $70,762. It is currently funded through June 30th 2024, with the possibility of a second year contingent on funding.
