Transit-Oriented Communities – Metro Policy & Implementation
Los Angeles is investing in improving its transit and active transportation network, but as we do so, we must protect existing communities from displacement pressures, and make sure that we have transit-supportive land uses so that people really can ditch the car or live car-lite.
The 15-minute city is one way to describe such a complete community, where everyone has easy access to healthy groceries, job opportunities, green space — whatever they would need and want all within one’s own neighborhood. That’s why we advocated for the creation of a Transit-Oriented Communities (TOC) Policy at LA Metro, and we’re now continuing to advise on the TOC Implementation Plan to bring resources and incentives towards carrying out that vision. Authentic and deep engagement of communities at risk of displacement is a cornerstone of this inclusive approach.
